Papua New Guinea's Prime Minister James Marape says his government intends to privatise some of the country's biggest state owned enterprises.

Among those enterprises are communications provider PNG Telikom and utility provider PNG Power. Mr Marape says his government will retain the majority of shares.

"My understanding is that there were substantial problems with rather expensive managers coming in from overseas," said Dr Amanda Watson from the Australian National University.
